Greetings From Sr. Marlita/ Salads desde Sr. Marlita

During most of my 10 years here at St. Thomas, I have helped prepare young children or adults in either the RCIA (for adults) or RCIC (for children) program in preparation for their receiving the sacraments on Holy Saturday. Some have been catechumens, celebrating all three sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation; others have been candidates, preparing for one or the other in their faith life. Each of them were taught throughout the months of classes the message of Jesus in the Gospel today, and it made their learning very practical and livable. It is good for all of us to refresh ourselves with this message.

“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you…” How different this is from our first inclinations when someone strikes us or insults us. We are asked to love them in return.

“Give to everyone who asks…and do not expect anything back.” I wonder if our giving is always so generous. Don’t we often hope that God is “chalking up” good deeds on our behalf?

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” This GOLDEN RULE has long been shared by priests and preachers as a real cure to some of our negative/selfish inclinations. We would often act in a different manner. Wouldn’t we?

“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” Do we readily forgive others as God pardons us of all our sins and failures in life?

We have much food for thought, don’t we? We can prayerfully support our 15 candidates and 4 catechumens with our good example as well.

Durante la mayoría de mis 10 años aquí en St. Thomas, ayudé a preparar niños pequeños o adultos, ya sea en el programa RICA (para adultos) o RCIC (para niños) en preparación para recibir los sacramentos el Sábado Santo. Algunos han sido catecúmenos, celebrando los tres sacramentos de iniciación: Bautismo, Eucaristía y Confirmación; otros han sido candidatos, preparándose para uno u otro en su vida de fe. A cada uno de ellos se les enseñó el mensaje de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy durante las clases, lo que hizo que su aprendizaje fuera muy práctico y vivible. Es bueno para todos nosotros refrescarnos con este mensaje.

“Ama a tus enemigos, haz el bien a los que te odian ...”. Qué diferente es esto de nuestras primeras inclinaciones cuando alguien nos golpea o nos insulta. Se nos pide que los amemos a cambio.

"Dale a todos los que pidan ... y no esperes nada a cambio". Me pregunto si nuestra entrega es siempre tan generosa. ¿No esperamos a menudo que Dios esté “haciendo el favor” de las buenas obras en nuestro nombre?

“Hazles a los demás como te gustaría que te hicieran a ti”. Esta REGLA DE ORO ha sido compartida durante mucho tiempo por sacerdotes y predicadores como una cura real para algunas de nuestras inclinaciones negativas / egoístas. A menudo actuaríamos de una manera diferente. ¿No lo haríamos nosotros?

“Sé misericordioso, así como tu Padre es misericordioso”. ¿Perdonamos fácilmente a los demás cuando Dios nos perdona todos nuestros pecados y fracasos en la vida?

Tenemos mucho para pensar, ¿no? Podemos apoyar en oración a nuestros 15 candidatos y 4 catecúmenos también con nuestro buen ejemplo.
