One of the most famous phrases in the historical novel, ‘LES MISERABLES” is: “To love another person is to see the face of GOD.” This is exactly what today’s Gospel tells us. To contemplate the face of God is heaven, because it is eternal glory and the highest thing to which a human can aspire. To contemplate the face of God is perfect bliss. And the best thing is that you do not have to wait to die to experience this, because we have a preview here on earth: loving others.
Jesus reminds us that the greatest commandment is: “to love as we have been loved.” By having been loved, we are granted the forgiveness and the ability to become what we are really called to be as beloved children of God; and with this new identity, we are able to love others. This is the salvation that comes to us through Christ: getting us out of our own sin and limitations, no matter how serious it is; giving us back our identity as children of God, created in his image and likeness; and allowing us to see the glory of the face of God here on earth, through our love for others.
In Les Miserables, the protagonist makes great sacrifices because of his love for God and others. Day-to-day brings small deaths and sacrifices where we deny ourselves in order to find ourselves. We see the light from the face of God. Without a doubt, it is the new heaven and earth we are seeking; it is the hope of our redemption. Can I choose to love when it is more costly and difficult? We need to try to do so.

Una de las frases más famosas de la novela histórica, "LOS MISERABLES" es: "Amar a otra persona es ver el rostro de DIOS". Esto es exactamente lo que nos dice el Evangelio de hoy. Contemplar el rostro de Dios es el cielo, porque es la gloria eterna y la cosa más elevada a la que un humano puede aspirar. Contemplar el rostro de Dios es una felicidad perfecta y lo mejor es que no tienes que esperar para morir para experimentar esto, porque tenemos una vista previa aquí en la tierra: amar a los demás.
Jesús nos recuerda que el mayor mandamiento es: "amar como hemos sido amados". Al ser amados, se nos otorga el perdón y la capacidad de convertirnos en lo que realmente estamos llamados a ser como hijos amados de Dios; y con esta nueva identidad, somos capaces de amar a los demás. Esta es la salvación que viene a nosotros a través de Cristo: sacarnos de nuestro propio pecado y limitaciones, sin importar cuán serio sea; devolviéndonos nuestra identidad como hijos de Dios, creados a su imagen y semejanza; y permitiéndonos ver la gloria del rostro de Dios aquí en la tierra, a través de nuestro amor por los demás.
En Los Miserables, el protagonista hace grandes sacrificios debido a su amor por Dios y por los demás. El día a día trae pequeñas muertes y diferencias en las que nos negamos a nosotros mismos para encontrarnos. Vemos la luz del rostro de Dios. Sin lugar a dudas, lo que buscamos son el nuevo cielo y la tierra; Es la esperanza de nuestra redención. ¿Puedo elegir amar cuando es más costoso y difícil? Tenemos que tratar de hacerlo.
