This Sunday’s Gospel has special importance for believers…that’s US! It identifies us as disciples of Jesus and recalls the prayer that Jesus taught his followers. The context in which it is taught enlightens Jesus’s followers about the insistence of prayer. In the parable about a man who asks a friend for bread to feed an unexpected visitor, the kindness of the person is compared with the kindness of our heavenly Father. We all need to imitate the generosity of our Father, who puts no limit on giving.
We celebrate our St. Thomas Community this weekend with our parish picnic. It takes many hearts and hands to help make it a success. Yes, it is a fundraiser, but it is especially a celebration of what community is. I wonder how many of us come and enjoy the liturgies, the music, the good food, the fun games and the family atmosphere but might forget to also contribute a bit to help provide those things for all to enjoy. It might be as simple as selling raffle tickets for an hour or helping to serve food to the guests. Or it may be by participating and donating to the auctions, oral and silent, and even buying items, or helping the BINGO game go smoothly. We are a community, so each person is important. When we pray the OUR FATHER, let us all recall that we are ONE BIG FAMILY who are invited to care about one another and who delight at asking God to care for our brothers and sisters. And God responds!

Julio de 2019 El Evangelio de este domingo tiene especial importancia para los creyentes ... ¡esos somos nosotros! Nos identifica como discípulos de Jesús y recuerda la oración que Jesús enseñó a sus seguidores. El contexto en el que se enseña ilumina a los seguidores de Jesús sobre la insistencia de la oración. En la parábola sobre un hombre que le pide pan a un amigo para alimentar a un visitante inesperado, la bondad de la persona se compara con la bondad de nuestro Padre celestial. Todos necesitamos imitar la generosidad de nuestro Padre, que no pone límites a la entrega.
Celebramos nuestra comunidad de St. Thomas este fin de semana con nuestro picnic parroquial. Se necesitan muchos corazones y manos para que sea un éxito. Sí, es un evento para recaudar fondos, pero es especialmente una celebración de lo que es la comunidad. Me pregunto cuántos de nosotros venimos y disfrutamos de las liturgias, la música, la buena comida, los juegos divertidos y el ambiente familiar, pero tal vez olviden contribuir. un poco para ayudar a proporcionar esas cosas para que todos disfruten. Puede ser tan simple como vender boletos para la rifa durante una hora o ayudar a servir comida a los invitados. O puede ser participando y donando a las subastas, de forma oral y silenciosa, e incluso comprando artículos, o ayudando a que el juego BINGO funcione sin problemas. Somos una comunidad, por lo que cada persona es importante. Cuando oramos a NUESTRO PADRE, recordemos que somos UNA GRAN FAMILIA invitada a cuidarnos unos a otros y que nos deleitamos en pedir a Dios por nuestros hermanos y hermanas. ¡Y Dios responde!
