The readings today speak to us about humility. I believe this virtue is often misunderstood. Humility does not mean thinking less of oneself; true humility recognizes that everything comes from God. Otherwise we can close ourselves off within, failing to see where it is we come from.
Some people think there is nothing more important than themselves and their interests, thus losing sight that all has been received from God. But there are also folks who see themselves as worthless, and this also seems to say that anything one has is due to themselves. Both viewpoints deny the truth because they attribute what is good and worthy to themselves.
Friends, the truth is God made us in his image and likeness; that is NO SMALL GIFT, nor is it of little value. Unfortunately, we sometimes consider that the best thing is to be rich, wealthy, and powerful. But the Gospel tells us that Jesus became close to the needy, poor, humble, and often powerless.
We are NOT called to position ourselves in the top places at the banquet, but to serve and prepare the great feast for the family of God, where we all will be extremely important because we are all made in the image of God, our creator and redeemer. Let us reflect on our own attitude of service.

Las lecturas de hoy nos hablan de la humildad. Creo que esta virtud es a menudo mal entendida. La humildad no significa pensar menos en uno mismo; La verdadera humildad reconoce que todo viene de Dios. De lo contrario, podemos cerrarnos por dentro, sin ver de dónde venimos.
Algunas personas piensan que no hay nada más importante que ellos y sus intereses, por lo que pierden de vista que todo ha sido recibido de Dios. Pero también hay personas que se ven a sí mismas como inútiles, y esto también parece decir que todo lo que uno tiene se debe a sí mismo. Los puntos de vista niegan la verdad porque atribuyen lo que es bueno y digno para ellos mismos.
Amigos, la verdad es que Dios nos hizo a su imagen y semejanza; eso NO ES UN PEQUEÑO REGALO, ni tiene poco valor. Desafortunadamente, a veces consideramos que lo mejor es ser rico, rico y poderoso. Pero el Evangelio nos dice que Jesús se hizo cercano a los necesitados, pobres, humildes y, a menudo, impotentes.
NO estamos llamados a posicionarnos en los primeros lugares del banquete, sino a servir y preparar la gran fiesta para la familia de Dios, donde todos seremos extremadamente importantes porque todos estamos hechos a imagen de Dios, nuestro creador y redentor. Reflexionemos sobre nuestra propia actitud de servicio.
