We all have probably heard the quote from Pope Francis when asked by a reporter about what he thought of actions of the gay/ lesbian culture. He answered: “Who am I to judge?” The truth is that there have always been people who feel pure and good that they can judge everyone without fear. They put up barriers that divide society between good and evil, and place themselves at the gate deciding who can pass.
There were also people like this in the time of Jesus, and he got their attention because he ate with sinners, and so became impure. Then those who were “pure” could not deal with him, much less accept his message. But Jesus is not affected by this; he knows he is the Son of God of Mercy. He tells parables like the lost sheep and the lost coin, and Jesus reveals God’s way of being: God’s compassion is for EVERYONE.
Today God has given us the ministry of mercy. He gave it to Paul, who had been a persecutor of the Christians, and after his conversion he was entrusted with the ministry of preaching the mystery of God’s mercy. This mercy reaches everyone, especially those who are lost and those who suffer. God always looks at us with mercy, and it is with mercy that we must see our brothers and sisters. Then we will be witnesses of God’s mercy to our world.
A good rule of thumb when being tempted to make judgments of others is: HOW WOULD GOD ACT WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL? Good question!

Probablemente todos hemos escuchado la cita del Papa Francisco cuando un periodista nos preguntó qué pensaba de las acciones de la cultura gay / lesbiana. Él respondió: "¿Quién soy yo para juzgar?" La verdad es que siempre ha habido personas que se sienten puras y buenas que pueden juzgar a todos sin temor. Ponen barreras que dividen la sociedad entre el bien y el mal, y se colocan en la puerta para decidir quién puede pasar.
También hubo personas como esta en la época de Jesús, y llamó su atención porque comía con los pecadores, por lo que se volvió impuro. Entonces aquellos que eran "puros" no podían tratar con él, y mucho menos aceptar su mensaje. Pero Jesús no se ve afectado por esto; Él sabe que es el hijo de Dios de la Misericordia. Él cuenta parábolas como la oveja perdida y la moneda perdida, y Jesús revela la forma de ser de Dios: la compasión de Dios es por TODOS.
Hoy Dios nos ha dado el ministerio de la misericordia. Se lo dio a Pablo, que había sido un perseguidor de los cristianos, y después de su conversión se le confió el ministerio de predicar el misterio de la misericordia de Dios. Esta misericordia llega a todos, especialmente a los que están perdidos y a los que sufren. Dios siempre nos mira con misericordia, y es con misericordia que debemos ver a nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Entonces seremos testigos de la misericordia de Dios para nuestro mundo.
Una buena regla general cuando se siente tentado a juzgar a otros es: ¿CÓMO ACTUARÍA DIOS CON ESTE INDIVIDUAL? ¡Buena pregunta!
