Happy Mother’s Day to each of our mothers, grandmothers, God mothers, step-mothers, and to all others who offer motherly support. There is a Jewish proverb that says: “God could not be everywhere, and therefore God created Mothers.” May you have a wonderful day filled with love and care from those you have mothered.
Love is in our minds and hearts today as we recall the love of our parents, specifically the love and dedication of our mothers. Love is also in the readings for today. Our first reading tells us of God’s love as God reveals his love and salvation to people of every race and culture. The second reading reminds us that everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. And the Gospel has Jesus reminding his disciples at the Last Supper to “Remain in me, as I remain in you.” Jesus says “Stay connected to me and to my love.”
It is good to recall that God’s love for us is pure gift. We do not make God any richer or happier or greater than he already is when we love him. On the contrary, it is WE who benefit, who are richer, happier and greater than who we would be without him. God is always the giver. That is why we so often use the word “grace”; because grace means “gift.”
It is really true. If we want to be more joy filled, pray to be more loving. Let us take time to honor our mothers, both here on earth, and in heaven, too. We are grateful for their loving us.

Feliz Día de la Madre a cada una de nuestras madres, abuelas, madrinas, madrastras y a todas las demás que brindan apoyo maternal. Hay un proverbio judío que dice: "Dios no podía estar en todas partes, y por eso Dios creó a las Madres". Que tengas un día maravilloso lleno de amor y cuidado por parte de tu mamá.
El amor está en nuestras mentes y corazones hoy al recordar el amor de nuestras mamás, específicamente el amor y la dedicación de nuestras madres. El amor también está en las lecturas de hoy. Nuestra primera lectura nos habla del amor de Dios cuando Dios revela su amor y salvación a personas de todas las razas y culturas. La segunda lectura nos recuerda que todo el que ama es engendrado por Dios y conoce a Dios. Y el Evangelio tiene a Jesús recordando a sus discípulos en la Última Cena que "permanezcan en mí, como yo permanezco en ustedes". Jesús dice: "Mantente conectado conmigo y con mi amor".
Es bueno recordar que el amor de Dios por nosotros es puro don. No hacemos a Dios más rico, feliz o más grande de lo que ya es cuando lo amamos. Al contrario, somos NOSOTROS los que nos beneficiamos, los que somos más ricos, más felices y más grandes de lo que seríamos sin él. Dios es siempre el dador. Por eso usamos tan a menudo la palabra "gracia"; porque gracia significa "regalo".
Es realmente cierto. Si queremos estar más llenos de gozo, ore para ser más amorosos. Dediquemos tiempo a honrar a nuestras madres, tanto aquí en la tierra como en el cielo también. Les agradecemos que nos amen.
