We celebrate the Feast of Pentecost today, and we also celebrate being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, if we so choose. Actually those two realties are closely connected. The coming of the Holy Spirit for the first time upon the Apostles at Pentecost brought the presence of Jesus again in a real way to those followers of The Way of Jesus. Today we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus. It recalls that Jesus after his resurrection returned to his Father in heaven, and promised to send the Holy Spirit to his followers to be with them until the end of time. Now that is some promise! We have two different presentations of the Ascension in the New Testament. One in the Gospel of Matthew we heard today and the other is in the Acts of the Apostles, the book that tells stories of the primitive church after the Resurrection
