We celebrate the Feast of Pentecost today, and we also celebrate being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, if we so choose. Actually those two realties are closely connected. The coming of the Holy Spirit for the first time upon the Apostles at Pentecost brought the presence of Jesus again in a real way to those followers of The Way of Jesus. The receiving of Jesus’s Body in the Eucharist brings the presence of Jesus to us who have been deprived of His sacramental presence for several months. We know that the spirit of Jesus is with us through our Baptism, but now we can be nourished anew to bring life to our spiritual life within.
The followers of Jesus were dramatically changed with the coming of the Holy Spirit for the first time. They left behind the fear of persecution and condemnation, and bravely shared the Word of Jesus and his message to all with the people who would listen. They were willing to face those hardships, knowing that the spirit of Jesus was with them to give them courage. Many of them died for this faith that they held dear.
Pentecost can be a good reminder to each of us to examine our own personal faith, and see where and when we might be the bolder witnesses today to the LOVE that Jesus shared with us. Let us come alive in the Spirit, and allow the Spirit to work within our hearts and minds, so that we proclaim the values and beliefs of our faith each day by who we are.

Celebramos la fiesta de Pentecostés hoy, y también celebramos poder recibir a Jesús en la Eucaristía, si así lo elegimos. En realidad, esas dos realidades están estrechamente conectadas. La venida del Espíritu Santo por primera vez sobre los Apóstoles en Pentecostés trajo la presencia de Jesús nuevamente de una manera real a aquellos seguidores del Camino de Jesús. La recepción del Cuerpo de Jesús en la Eucaristía nos trae la presencia de Jesús, que ha estado privado de su presencia sacramental durante varios meses. Sabemos que el espíritu de Jesús está con nosotros a través de nuestro Bautismo, pero ahora podemos nutrirnos de nuevo para traer vida a nuestra vida espiritual interior.
Los seguidores de Jesús fueron cambiados dramáticamente con la venida del Espíritu Santo por primera vez. Dejaron atrás el miedo a la persecución y la condena, y valientemente compartieron la Palabra de Jesús y su mensaje a todos con la gente que escucharía. Estaban dispuestos a enfrentar esas dificultades, sabiendo que el espíritu de Jesús estaba con ellos para darles coraje. Muchos de ellos murieron por esta fe que apreciaban.
Pentecostés puede ser un buen recordatorio para cada uno de nosotros de examinar nuestra propia fe personal y ver dónde y cuándo podríamos ser los testigos más audaces hoy del AMOR que Jesús compartió con nosotros. Vivamos en el Espíritu y permitamos que el Espíritu trabaje dentro de nuestros corazones y mentes, de modo que proclamemos los valores y creencias de nuestra fe cada día por quienes somos.
