We are moving along with these Sundays after Easter toward the Ascension of Jesus next weekend, and the coming of the Holy Spirit for the first time upon the Apostles at Pentecost. Jesus continues to remind all of us that His Spirit, the spirit of love and peace for all, was promised to his followers to enable them to go out and share the Word of God with others. We are those followers today, who received the Spirit of God at our Baptism.

This same Spirit who brought Jesus back to life at the Resurrection is now the Spirit who inhabits each one of us. I wonder if we realize the beauty of that fact. That same Spirit wants us to be ALIVE in our own faith, and to make a difference in the lives of others. Do you remember that song we sing at the end of Mass occasionally? “GO MAKE A DIFFERENCE; YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFFERENCE; GO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!” These are not just nice words; we CAN make a difference when we are faithful to what Jesus invites us to each day. Being open to the ways those invitations come is our task. We need to hear them and then be willing to respond. God’s Spirit helps us to answer the calls to share the love and peace Jesus came to give.

Today we hear Jesus say He will not leave us orphans. Jesus promises his Holy Spirit as an advocate, a helper, to give us courage to be whom we say we are, a disciple ready to live his Word in our lives. Let us pray we respond generously.

Estamos avanzando con estos domingos después de Pascua hacia la Ascensión de Jesús el próximo fin de semana sera la llegada del Espíritu Santo por primera vez sobre los Apóstoles en Pentecostés. Jesús continúa recordándonos a todos que Su Espíritu, el espíritu de amor y paz para todos, fue prometido a sus seguidores para permitirles salir y compartir la Palabra de Dios con los demás. Somos esos seguidores hoy, que recibimos el Espíritu de Dios en nuestro Bautismo.

Este mismo Espíritu que trajo a Jesús de vuelta a la vida en la Resurrección es ahora el Espíritu que habita en cada uno de nosotros. Me pregunto si nos damos cuenta de la belleza de ese hecho. Ese mismo Espíritu quiere que estemos VIVOS en nuestra propia fe y que hagamos una diferencia en la vida de los demás. ¿Recuerdas esa canción que cantamos al final de la misa ocasionalmente? “VAYA A HACER LA DIFERENCIA; USTED PUEDE HACER LA DIFERENCIA; ¡VAYA A HACER LA DIFERENCIA EN EL MUNDO! Estas no son solo palabras bonitas; PODEMOS marcar la diferencia cuando somos fieles a lo que Jesús nos invita cada día. Estar abiertos a las formas en que llegan esas invitaciones es nuestra tarea. Necesitamos escucharlos y luego estar dispuestos a responder. El Espíritu de Dios nos ayuda a responder los llamados a compartir el amor y la paz que Jesús vino a dar.

Hoy escuchamos a Jesús decir que no nos dejará huérfanos. Jesús promete a su Espíritu Santo como un defensor, un ayudante, que nos dará valor para ser quienes decimos que somos, un discípulo listo para vivir su Palabra en nuestras vidas. Oremos para que respondamos generosamente.
