We are God’s Good News! Did you ever think about that? Each of us is an expression of the love of God for his creatures, so we are the Good News that God wants us to be about. That implies that we are truly free persons who can express the love and care of God to others by how we live and act.
But isn’t it true that the news desks of the nation and world give us a considerable amount of BAD news on a daily basis? Maybe one story at the end of a 30 minute evening newscast says something positive. So we would love to receive Good News, but it gets blocked out too easily.
The gospel today speaks of liberation, but are there actually people who are truly free? Isn’t poverty of spirit and spiritual blindness present everywhere? Aren’t there invisible bars that take hold of the heart and enslave the will?
Each of us as members of Christ’s Body is sent, in some way, to preach freedom to the oppressed, to evangelize the poor, and proclaim the grace of the Lord. We can all be instruments of liberation for others, if we strive to work for justice starting in our own homes. This includes how we treat each other and how we create a climate of trust and peace. This is the way we can be Good News for each other, making life easier and more enjoyable, helping and serving those in need. Jesus is good news because he offers the grace and promise of redemption. With Christ we, in turn, become good news.

¡Somos las buenas nuevas de Dios! ¿Alguna vez pensaste sobre eso? Cada uno de nosotros es una expresión del amor de Dios por sus criaturas, por lo que somos la Buena Nueva que Dios quiere que tratemos. Eso implica que somos personas verdaderamente libres que podemos expresar el amor y el cuidado de Dios a los demás por cómo vivimos y actuamos.
Pero, ¿no es cierto que las oficinas de noticias de la nación y el mundo nos dan una cantidad considerable de malas noticias a diario? Tal vez una historia al final de un noticiero de 30 minutos por la noche diga algo positivo. Así que nos encantaría recibir Buenas noticias, pero se bloquea demasiado fácilmente.
El evangelio de hoy habla de liberación, pero ¿hay personas que son realmente libres? ¿No está presente la pobreza de espíritu y la ceguera espiritual en todas partes? ¿No hay barras invisibles que se apoderan del corazón y esclavizan la voluntad?
Cada uno de nosotros, como miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, es enviado, de alguna manera, a predicar la libertad a los oprimidos, a evangelizar a los pobres y a proclamar la gracia del Señor. Todos podemos ser instrumentos de liberación para otros, si nos esforzamos por trabajar por la justicia a partir de nuestros propios hogares. Esto incluye cómo nos tratamos unos a otros y cómo creamos un clima de confianza y paz. Esta es la forma en que podemos ser buenas noticias para los demás, para hacer la vida más fácil y más placentera, ayudando y sirviendo a los necesitados. Jesús es una buena noticia porque ofrece la gracia y la promesa de la redención. Con Cristo, a su vez, nos convertimos en buenas nuevas.
