As we celebrate the feast of the Ascension today, we might not know details about the where and when Jesus actually returned to his Father, since some of the Gospels have it happening Easter Sunday night, and others describe the event 40 days after the Resurrection. But what IS important is the message that Jesus gave to his disciples and to us.

Jesus told his followers to have faith in him. He added: “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself…” These words presuppose the Ascension of Jesus, and they are words of great comfort.

There IS another world, and Jesus wants to make us a part of it; a world where his glory and love will be fully revealed and experienced. And when Thomas, our patron, asked Jesus how to get to that world, Jesus answered: “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

There we have it! Jesus is our pathway to that heavenly bliss one day with God. We are reminded on this feast that we are destined for heaven, and when we follow the way of Jesus, we have God’s assurance that we will arrive.

Mientras celebramos la fiesta de la Ascensión hoy, es posible que no sepamos detalles sobre dónde y cuándo Jesús realmente regresó a su Padre, ya que algunos de los Evangelios lo dicen en la noche del Domingo de Resurrección, y otros describen el evento 40 días después de la Resurrección. Pero lo importante es el mensaje que Jesús dio a sus discípulos y a nosotros.

Jesús les dijo a sus seguidores que tuvieran fe en él. Añadió: “En la casa de mi Padre hay muchas moradas. Si no lo hubiera, ¿te habría dicho que te voy a preparar un lugar? Y si te preparo un lugar, volveré y te llevaré conmigo…” Estas palabras presuponen la Ascensión de Jesús, y son palabras de gran consuelo.

Hay otro mundo, y Jesús quiere hacernos parte de él; un mundo donde su gloria y amor serán plenamente revelados y experimentados. Y cuando Tomás, nuestro patrón, le preguntó a Jesús cómo llegar a ese mundo, Jesús respondió: “Yo soy el CAMINO, la VERDAD y la VIDA. Nadie viene al Padre sino por mí". ¡Ahí lo tenemos! Jesús es nuestro camino hacia esa dicha celes"al un día con Dios. En esta fiesta se nos recuerda que estamos des"nados al cielo, y cuando seguimos el camino de Jesús, tenemos la seguridad de Dios de que llegaremos.

¡¡¡Eso vale la pena seguir cantando nuestras ALELUYAS!!!
