Happy Feast of Pentecost! We are now 50 days after Easter, and this feast celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, enabling them to have the courage to go out and spread the good news of Jesus to the world.

Did you know that there are books and books written about the Holy Spirit? We know the Spirit as the 3rd person of the Trinity, the love that is shared between the Father and the Son. This Spirit guides us and inspires us to do good in our world, and to keep alive the message Jesus shared while on this earth himself. But often like our word SPIRIT, meaning something ethereal, we get sidetracked about how the Holy Spirit really influences our lives.

St. Paul asks: “Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” Paul also reminds us of the fruits of the Spirit: “patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, joy, peace, self-control, etc.” Do we see these traits in ourselves, and do you see them in others? You are seeing what the Holy Spirit looks like when you do.

Without Pentecost, the Church would have died a quick death because the Apostles were too afraid to proclaim Jesus Christ. With the Spirit the Church became alive. That is why we call Pentecost the Birthday of the Church. So let’s celebrate today that we, too, have received this spirit through Baptism and Confirmation, and are invited to share it by the lives we live in union with the Trinity.

¡Feliz fiesta de Pentecostés! Ahora estamos 50 días después de la Pascua, y esta fiesta celebra la venida del Espíritu Santo sobre los Apóstoles, lo que les permite tener el valor de salir y difundir las buenas nuevas de Jesús al mundo.

¿Sabías que hay libros y libros escritos sobre el Espíritu Santo? Conocemos al Espíritu como la tercera persona de la Trinidad, el amor que se comparte entre el Padre y el Hijo. Este Espíritu nos guía y nos inspira a hacer el bien en nuestro mundo y a mantener vivo el mensaje que Jesús compartió mientras estuvo en esta tierra. Pero a menudo, como nuestra palabra ESPÍRITU, que significa algo etéreo, nos desviamos de cómo el Espíritu Santo realmente influye en nuestras vidas.

San Pablo pregunta: "¿No saben que son templo de Dios y que el Espíritu de Dios habita en nosotros?" Pablo también nos recuerda los frutos del Espíritu: "paciencia, bondad, generosidad, fidelidad, gozo, paz, dominio propio, etc." ¿Vemos estos rasgos en nosotros mismos y tú los ves en los demás? Estás viendo cómo se ve el Espíritu Santo cuando lo haces.

Sin Pentecostés, la Iglesia habría tenido una muerte rápida porque los Apóstoles tenían demasiado miedo de proclamar a Jesucristo. Con el Espíritu la Iglesia cobró vida. Por eso llamamos a Pentecostés el cumpleaños de la Iglesia. Así que celebremos hoy que también nosotros hemos recibido este espíritu a través del Bautismo y la Confirmación, y estamos invitados a compartirlo por las vidas que vivimos en unión con la Trinidad.
