Today’s feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is one of the Church’s feast that can present a challenge to us as Catholics. Why? Because much of our culture seems not to believe something is real unless we see it for ourselves. Many of us are skeptics.

However, with faith we cannot use the motto: “Seeing is believing.” We have to reverse the motto to : “Believing is seeing.”, for if we take on faith what Jesus said, we will someday see it to be true. If you don’t think Jesus made Himself clear about the Eucharist, read the 6th chapter of the Gospel of John. It is one of the most beautiful chapters in the Gospels and is something you do not want to miss. We will hear this chapter later in July and August on the weekends.

Our Church teaches us that the bread and wine are truly changed and that we receive the whole Christ in communion, the Risen Jesus under the appearances of bread and wine. But we are reminded of the fuller meaning of our union with him and our covenant with him. The word “Covenant” means a sacred agreement. In this agreement or covenant, promises are made. Jesus promises us his eternal love and everlasting life, and we promise to live as he taught us. Do we always live up to that promise? We know we don’t, and Jesus knows it, too. So that is why he gave his apostles the power to forgive sins. We sometimes come to Mass and think it is all about US, but the Mass is something we are offering to God as act of worship. Let us strive to come to the table of the Lord with sincerity and love. And one day we WILL join Jesus at His banquet in heaven.

La fiesta de hoy del Santisimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo es una de las fiestas de la Iglesia que puede presentarnos un desa&o como católicos. ¿Por qué? Porque gran parte de nuestra cultura parece no creer que algo es real a menos que lo veamos por nosotros mismos. Muchos de nosotros somos escép!cos.

Sin embargo, con fe no podemos usar el lema: "Ver para creer". Tenemos que invertir el lema a: "Creer para ver", porque si asumimos con fe lo que Jesús dijo, algún día veremos que es verdad. Si no cree que Jesús se haya aclarado sobre la Eucaris%a, lea el capítulo 6 del Evangelio de Juan. Es uno de los capítulos más hermosos de los evangelios y es algo que no querrá perderse. Escucharemos este capítulo más adelante en julio y agosto los fines de semana.

Nuestra Iglesia nos enseña que el pan y el vino son verdaderamente cambiados y que recibimos en comunión a todo Cristo, Jesús Resucitado bajo las apariencias del pan y del vino. Pero recordamos el significado más pleno de nuestra unión con él y nuestro pacto con él. La palabra "Pacto" significa un acuerdo sagrado. En este acuerdo o pacto, se hacen promesas. Jesús nos promete su amor eterno y su vida eterna, y nosotros prometemos vivir como él nos enseñó. ¿Siempre estamos a la altura de esa promesa? Sabemos que no, y Jesús también lo sabe. Por eso les dio a sus apóstoles el poder de perdonar pecados. A veces venimos a misa y pensamos que se trata de nosotros, pero la misa es algo que le estamos ofreciendo a Dios como acto de adoración. Esforcémonos por acercarnos a la mesa del Señor con sinceridad y amor. Y un día nos uniremos a Jesús en su banquete en el cielo.
