I wonder how many of us at one !me or another in our lives have expressed the same or similar words that we hear in the Gospel today: “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
The mystery of suffering is one that humankind has struggled with for the majority of its existence. In Old Testament times, people believed that if life was blessed with good and many blessings, then they must have been holy, righteous persons. But if a person was poor or sick, or suffered in some other way, they were being punished for some evil in their life. But we know that things don’t always work that easy. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.
Jesus taught us differently. In the New Testament we begin to understand better that through His life, death and resurrection, we are all blessed. And even when the bad happens to us, God loves us through the difficult !me. But we still struggle in our faith, and ask God: “Don’t you care, Lord, that we are drowning?”
Jesus today asks us the same question: “Why are you so terrified? Why are you so lacking in faith?” The point is we are invited to trust and have faith in the midst of the storm, in the middle of hard times that are a part of life. We are asked to depend more on God’s love and care, and be confident that God is still in control. Let us pray that we can have an increase of faith in our loving God, that do not allow God’s word to go in one ear and out the other. May we walk by faith more each day.

Me pregunto cuántos de nosotros en un momento u otro de nuestras vidas hemos expresado las mismas palabras o similares que escuchamos en el Evangelio de hoy: "Maestro, ¿no te importa que estemos pereciendo?"
El misterio del sufrimiento es uno con el que la humanidad ha luchado durante la mayor parte de su existencia. En los !empos del An!guo Testamento, la gente creía que si la vida era bendecida con el bien y muchas bendiciones, entonces debían haber sido personas santas y justas. Pero si una persona era pobre o estaba enferma, o sufría de alguna otra manera, estaba siendo cas!gada por algún mal en su vida. Pero sabemos que las cosas no siempre funcionan tan fácilmente. A veces pasan cosas malas a la gente buena.
Jesús nos enseñó de manera diferente. En el Nuevo Testamento comenzamos a comprender mejor que a través de Su vida, muerte y resurrección, todos somos bendecidos. E incluso cuando nos pasa lo malo, Dios nos ama durante los momentos di'ciles. Pero todavía luchamos en nuestra fe, y le preguntamos a Dios: "¿No te importa, Señor, que nos estamos ahogando?"
Jesús hoy nos hace la misma pregunta: “¿Por qué estás tan aterrorizado? ¿Por qué te falta tanta fe? El caso es que se nos invita a confiar y tener fe en medio de la tormenta, en medio de los !empos di'ciles que forman parte de la vida. Se nos pide que dependamos más del amor y el cuidado de Dios, y que estemos seguros de que Dios todavía !ene el control. Oremos para que podamos tener un aumento de la fe en nuestro Dios amoroso, que no permita que la palabra de Dios entre por un oído y salga por el otro. Que caminemos por fe más cada día.
