This weekend is the FARMER’S GOSPEL. We have two parables from St, Mark. The first is about how seed grows and how the farmer has to patiently wait for it, just like he does at this "me of year. The planting is done, or nearly so, and so nature has to take its course.

This reminds us how, in our spiritual lives, we have to do some of the work. The farmer had to prepare the soil, plant the seed, maybe fertilize, and hope for the rains to water the fields. But we have to depend on God to do what we cannot do. We have to be patient for God to do His part. We all need God’s help if we hope to be a part of God’s kingdom (which these parables are about) We recall that Jesus told us, “without me you can do nothing.”

The second parable about the mustard seed shows us that if we are patient and depend on God doing His part, great things can take place. A tiny seed can blossom and grow to be a sturdy tree, but only with all the necessary helps, so to speak.

Are we growing spiritually? The parables today are telling each of us that we need to be growing in our faith. Think about this. Plants either keep growing or they die. If our faith fails to deepen and grow, it could die. We have another life ahead of us, and we need to prepare for it. That is what Jesus came to teach us. As long as we are open to God’s Spirit, we won’t stop growing, and as we grow, we are to produce good fruit, good works. We are called to continue to develop a deeper relationship with God, through prayer and our good works, and with reading and reflec"on. Let’s fill our hearts and minds with all that will help us to grow, day by day.

Este fin de semana es el EVANGELIO DEL GRANJERO. Tenemos dos parábolas de San Marcos. La primera trata sobre cómo crece la semilla y cómo el agricultor "ene que esperar pacientemente, tal como lo hace en esta época del año. La siembra está terminada, o casi, por lo que la naturaleza "ene que seguir su curso.

Esto nos recuerda cómo, en nuestra vida espiritual, tenemos que hacer parte del trabajo. El agricultor tuvo que preparar el suelo, plantar la semilla, tal vez fer"lizar y esperar que las lluvias rieguen los campos. Pero tenemos que depender de Dios para hacer lo que no podemos hacer. Tenemos que ser pacientes para que Dios haga su parte. Todos necesitamos la ayuda de Dios si esperamos ser parte del reino de Dios (de lo que tratan estas parábolas). Recordamos que Jesús nos dijo, "sin mí no puedes hacer nada".

La segunda parábola sobre la semilla de mostaza nos muestra que si somos pacientes y dependemos de que Dios haga Su parte, pueden suceder grandes cosas. Una pequeña semilla puede florecer y crecer hasta conver"rse en un árbol robusto, pero solo con todas las ayudas necesarias, por así decirlo.

¿Estamos creciendo espiritualmente? Las parábolas de hoy nos dicen a cada uno de nosotros que debemos crecer en nuestra fe. Piensa sobre esto. Las plantas siguen creciendo o mueren. Si nuestra fe no se profundiza ni crece, podría morir. Tenemos otra vida por delante y debemos prepararnos para ella. Eso es lo que Jesús vino a enseñarnos. Mientras estemos abiertos al Espíritu de Dios, no dejaremos de crecer y, a medida que crecemos, debemos producir buenos frutos, buenas obras. Estamos llamados a seguir desarrollando una relación más profunda con Dios, a través de la oración y nuestras buenas obras, y con la lectura y la reflexión. Llenemos nuestro corazón y nuestra mente con todo lo que nos ayude a crecer, día a día.
