Greetings From Sr. Marlita/ Saludos desde Sr. Marlita

When we are asked about our faith in God, I wonder how many of us think or say : “ I BELIEVE that God….” because faith does have the dimension of our beliefs. But there is another side of faith that is even more fundamental, and when I read the following comments of Bp. Robert Barron, (auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles) a prominent Catholic media writer and speaker, I thought it is a good challenge to our understanding about FAITH. He wrote this:

“One of the most fundamental statements of faith is this: your life is not about you. You’re not in control. This is not your project; rather, you are part of God’s great design. To believe this in your bones and to act accordingly is to have faith. When we operate out of this transformed vision, amazing things can happen, for we have surrendered to "a power already at work in us that can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine." Even a tiny bit of faith makes an extraordinary difference.”

Wouldn’t it make a big difference in our lives, if we truly could accept this statement about faith? In the Gospel today the people of his hometown synagogue could not believe in Jesus’s words that Scripture was being fulfilled in Him. He was not accepted, not believed in, in his native place. And they were ready to throw him off the cliff, thinking he was blaspheming. Later, maybe some of them were able to accept Jesus, but only because they could see themselves as a part of GOD’S plan, not theirs. Let us pray we can do the same today, and each day into the future.

Cuando se nos pregunta sobre nuestra fe en Dios, me pregunto cuántos de nosotros pensamos o decimos: "CREO que Dios ..." porque la fe tiene la dimensión de nuestras creencias. Pero hay otro lado de la fe que es aún más fundamental, y cuando leo los siguientes comentarios de Bp. Robert Barron, (obispo auxiliar en Los Ángeles), un prominente escritor y orador de los medios católicos, pensé que es un buen desafío para nuestra comprensión de la FE. Él escribió esto:

“Una de las declaraciones más fundamentales de la fe es esta: tu vida no se trata de ti. No estás en control. Este no es tu proyecto; más bien, eres parte del gran diseño de Dios. Creer esto en tus huesos y actuar en consecuencia es tener fe. Cuando operamos fuera de esta visión transformada, pueden suceder cosas asombrosas, porque nos hemos rendido a "un poder que ya está trabajando en nosotros y que puede hacer infinitamente más de lo que podemos pedir o imaginar". Incluso un poco de fe hace una diferencia extraordinaria ".

¿No sería una gran diferencia en nuestras vidas, si realmente pudiéramos aceptar esta declaración sobre la fe? En el Evangelio de hoy, la gente de la sinagoga de su ciudad natal no podía creer en las palabras de Jesús de que la Escritura se estaba cumpliendo en Él. No fue aceptado, no se le creyó, en su lugar natal. Y estaban listos para tirarlo por el precipicio, pensando que estaba blasfemando. Más tarde, tal vez algunos de ellos pudieron aceptar a Jesús, pero solo porque podían verse a sí mismos como parte del plan de DIOS, no de ellos. Oremos para que podamos hacer lo mismo hoy, y cada día en el futuro.
