Greetings From Sr. Marlita/ Saludos desde Sr. Marlita

Continuing the understanding about faith from last week, it is good for us to realize a little more that it IS NOT ABOUT US, NOR OUR BELIEFS; it is not our project, but instead, we are a part of God’s great design; God is in control. This week’s Gospel continues to emphasize this concept with the story of the great catch of fish for the first Apostles.

Five of the twelve Apostles were known to be fishermen by trade before they answered Jesus’s invitation to follow him: Simon Peter, and his brother Andrew; James and John, sons of Zebedee, and Philip. They probably had many, many years of combined experience on the lakes in the area of Galilee. So even though they had worked hard all the night before and caught nothing, THEY HAD FAITH IN JESUS. It was NOT about them, or otherwise they would not have lowered their nets again. They would have probably laughed at Jesus and said: “ Who are YOU to tell US how and when to fish? Aren’t we the experts?” They gave up the control, and did as Jesus asked, and miraculously, they caught a great number of fish to even tear their nets.

We, too, like the first Apostles are part of God’s great design. We are invited to truly believe this, to act on this truth, and to allow God to work in our lives each day. Jesus told the Apostles, and tells us, too: “DO NOT BE AFRAID…to give your heart to me. I will help you do great things.” So we pray: “Lord, help our unbelief.”

Continuando con el entendimiento acerca de la fe de la semana pasada, es bueno que nos demos cuenta un poco más de que NO ESTÁ SOBRE NOSOTROS, NI NUESTRAS CREENCIAS; no es nuestro proyecto, sino que somos parte del gran diseño de Dios; Dios tiene el control. El Evangelio de esta semana continúa enfatizando este concepto con la historia de la gran captura de peces para los primeros Apóstoles.

Se sabía que cinco de los doce apóstoles eran pescadores por oficio antes de responder a la invitación de Jesús a seguirlo: Simón Pedro y su hermano Andrés; Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, y Felipe. Probablemente tuvieron muchos, muchos años de experiencia combinada en los lagos en el área de Galilea. Entonces, a pesar de que habían trabajado duro toda la noche anterior y no habían atrapado nada, TENÍAN FE EN JESÚS. NO se trataba de ellos, o de lo contrario no habrían bajado sus redes de nuevo. Probablemente se habrían reído de Jesús y habrían dicho: “¿Quiénes son ustedes para decirnos cómo y cuándo debemos pescar? ¿No somos nosotros los expertos?” Renunciaron al control e hicieron lo que Jesús le pidió, y milagrosamente, capturaron una gran cantidad de peces para incluso romper sus redes.

Nosotros también, como los primeros apóstoles somos parte del gran diseño de Dios. Estamos invitados a creer realmente en esto, a actuar sobre esta verdad y a permitir que Dios trabaje en nuestras vidas cada día. Jesús les dijo a los apóstoles, y también nos dice: "NO TENGA MIEDO ... por entregarme su corazón. Te ayudaré a hacer grandes cosas ". Así que oremos:" Señor, ayuda nuestra incredulidad ".
