We often imagine that the early Christians had it very easy. They had been close to Jesus; they met him and heard the message directly from him. Today we walk amidst many shadows and life seems to be complicated; however, if we examine it closely, the times of the early Christians were not very different from ours. They lived in circumstances when they were persecuted and unsure of everything. They had no guarantees and many were frightened. Those Christians in Jerusalem suffered rejection from their own people. In the three readings today you hear some words repeated like peace, healing, forgiveness, power, Spirit, and rejoicing. These gave the community the security that the promise of God is always fulfilled.

Let’s focus a moment on the situations in our lives where we need PEACE...problems in the family, tensions, conflicts at work, etc. Perhaps when we hear the phrase “Peace be with you,” we can feel the presence of the Risen Lord.

If we focus on the word HEALING, we may think of some who have physical needs. But there are also spiritual diseases like vices, bitterness, resentments, and addictions. As we get closer to Church, we can feel the power that emerges from the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Healing is possible.

Finally, this is all a source of JOY. We can live a strong and profound joy within us by the power of the Spirit who heals and gives peace. We can trust in a promise that goes beyond all barriers to give us peace.

A menudo imaginamos que los primeros Chrisitians lo tenían muy fácil. Ellos habían estado cerca de Jesús; Lo encontraron y escucharon el mensaje directamente de él. Hoy caminamos en medio de muchas sombras y la vida parece complicada; sin embargo, si lo examinamos detenidamente, los tiempos de los primeros cristianos no fueron muy diferentes de los nuestros. Vivían en circunstancias en que eran perseguidos e inseguros de todo. No tenían garantías y muchos estaban asustados. Esos cristianos en Jerusalén sufrieron el rechazo de su propia gente. En las tres lecturas de hoy escuchas algunas palabras que se repiten como: paz, sanidad, perdón, poder, espíritu y regocijo. Esto le dio a la comunidad la seguridad de que la promesa de Dios siempre se cumple.

Centrémonos un momento en las situaciones de nuestras vidas en las que necesitamos PAZ ... problemas en la familia, tensiones, conflictos en el trabajo, etc. Tal vez cuando escuchemos la frase: "La paz esté con ustedes", podemos sentir la Presencia del Señor resucitado.

Si nos enfocamos en la palabra SANACIÓN, podemos pensar en algunos que tienen necesidades físicas, pero también puede haber enfermedades espirituales como vicios, amargura, resentimientos, adicciones. A medida que nos acercamos a la Iglesia, podemos sentir el poder que surge de la vida, la muerte y la resurrección de Jesús. La curación es posible.

Finalmente todo esto es fuente de alegría. Podemos vivir un gozo fuerte y profundo dentro de nosotros, por el poder del Espíritu, que sana y da paz. Podemos confiar en una promesa que supera todas las barreras para darnos paz. Hermana Marlita Henseler
