Isn’t it true that the mass media focuses much more on the BAD news than on the GOOD news? We seem to hear, think or say often that the world is bad, too. We know there is corruption, violence, wars, and problems even in our church. And sometimes we ourselves may be going through some rough times. So the negative influences around us are real.
What keeps us standing and motivated to continue living and working? We as Christians are saved in HOPE. Above and beyond any evil, we know well that there is GOOD, BEAUTY, and TRUTH in Christ. It is the hope of the resurrection, which is our faith in the Resurrection of Christ that sustains us. That is what saves us; the triumph of Jesus over evil and even death.
We can have hope and we should, because we also know how much good exists around us and how much good is within us that it often surprises us. Whenever there is joy; when we have feelings of peace and confidence in the future despite our difficulties; when we see the goodness, solidarity, help and kindness of others; each time we receive or give good advice; whenever we feel moved by a deep sense of the presence of God; whenever we are surprised by our own strength in times of pain and anguish; whenever we feel that someone walks close to us and gives us encouragement to continue; when we see others fighting for the rights of others; when we receive the forgiveness of others;….all these occasions and more are signs of the HOLY SPIRIT’S PRESENCE. That is what we celebrate today on PENTECOST. Let us pray that we are open to Him in our lives.

¿No es cierto que los medios de comunicación se centran mucho más en las malas noticias que en las buenas noticias? Parece que escuchamos, pensamos o decimos a menudo que el mundo también es malo. Sabemos que hay corrupción, violencia, guerras y problemas incluso en nuestra iglesia. Y a veces nosotros mismos estamos pasando por momentos difíciles. Así que las influencias negativas que nos rodean son reales.
¿Qué nos mantiene en pie y motivados para seguir viviendo y trabajando? Nosotros como cristianos somos salvos en la ESPERANZA. Por encima y más allá de cualquier maldad, sabemos que hay UN BIEN, BELLEZA y VERDAD EN CRISTO. Es la esperanza de la resurrección, que es nuestra fe en la resurrección de Cristo que nos sostiene. Eso es lo que nos salva; el triunfo de Jesús sobre el mal y hasta la muerte.
Podemos tener esperanza y deberíamos, porque también sabemos cuánto bien existe a nuestro alrededor y cuánto bien hay dentro de nosotros que a menudo nos sorprende. Siempre que haya alegría; cuando tenemos sentimientos de paz y confianza en el futuro a pesar de nuestras dificultades; cuando vemos la bondad, la solidaridad, la ayuda y la bondad de los demás; Cada vez que recibimos o damos buenos consejos; cada vez que nos sentimos movidos por un profundo sentido de la presencia de Dios; siempre que estamos sorprendidos por nuestra propia fuerza en tiempos de dolor y angustia; cada vez que sentimos que alguien se acerca a nosotros y nos anima a continuar; cuando vemos a otros luchando por los derechos de los demás; cuando recibimos el perdón de los demás; ... todas estas ocasiones y más son signos de la PRESENCIA DEL ESPÍRITU SANTO. Eso es lo que celebramos hoy en PENTECOSTES. Oremos para que estemos abiertos a Él en nuestras vidas.
