Just a reminder that this week’s bulletin will be for both June 30 and July 7. Save the dates.
We have returned to Ordinary Time, meaning the special feasts since Easter are now history, and the ordinary weeks of summer with only August 15 as a feast, have come to us. Ordinary is good, and we can enjoy it.
June 30th’s Gospel message is a challenging one for most of us….love your enemies, and do not wish bad things for them. What a difficult attitude to practice at times, no? But we can live in true freedom when we don’t have revengeful feelings and getting even on our minds. These attitudes drag us down and others with us. The Gospel reminds us that that it is freer who surrenders all, and finds a more abundant life in God. If we have the well-being of others on our mind, then our relationship with God also deepens.
In July 7th’s Gospel we hear Jesus sending out the 72 disciples, two-by-two, to preach the Good News, to wish peace to all, to be close to the sick and needy, and to proclaim God’s Kingdom. What an ordinary message, no big accomplishment is needed, just being caring and compassionate to all around us. We are all transmitters of Jesus’s message. God has placed this treasure in our hands. Even when humans have created death and destruction, we can announce peace and have confidence in God’s love for us. When we make Jesus our center, we can share love with all we know. Let’s make summertime a time to do just that.

El mensaje del Evangelio del 30 de junio es un desafío para la mayoría de nosotros... ama a tus enemigos y no desees cosas malas para ellos.
Qué actitud tan difícil de practicar a veces, ¿no? Pero podemos vivir en verdadera libertad cuando no tenemos sentimientos de venganza y ni siquiera estamos en nuestras mentes. Estas actitudes nos arrastran, y otras con nosotros. El Evangelio nos recuerda que es más libre quien se entrega y encuentra una vida más abundante en Dios. Si tenemos en mente el bienestar de los demás, entonces nuestra relación con Dios también se profundiza.
En el Evangelio del 7 de julio, escuchamos a Jesús enviar a los 72 discípulos, de dos en dos, a predicar la Buena Nueva, a desear la paz a todos, a estar cerca de los enfermos y necesitados, y a proclamar el Reino de Dios. Lo que se necesita es un mensaje ordinario, no se necesitan grandes logros, solo ser cariñosos y compasivos con todos los que nos rodean. Todos somos transmisores del mensaje de Jesús. Dios ha puesto este tesoro en nuestras manos. Incluso cuando los humanos han creado la muerte y la destrucción, podemos anunciar la paz y tener confianza en el amor de Dios por nosotros. Cuando hacemos de Jesús nuestro centro, podemos compartir el amor con todo lo que sabemos. Vamos a hacer del verano uno para hacer precisamente eso.
