Hospitality is essential for people to feel welcome and included in any group. I hear frequently that our St. Thomas Community is one that is hospitable and welcoming, and I am always very proud that this characteristic is outstanding. Thank you for helping to make both guests and members feel “AT HOME”.
Hospitality is a theme of our readings today. In the Jewish faith, it was considered a sacred duty. Visitors were given honor and respect. How is it exemplified? By listening to the guests, caring for their needs, and above all, welcoming the person. I believe hospitality is natural to us, but because folks have become increasingly more distrustful of others, it has sometimes disappeared. And that is sad. The fact is we are all brothers and sisters. We all belong to the family of God, and so we should put an emphasis on this virtue.
We can be more welcoming by being receptive and listening to others; also by serving the needs of others and giving a helping hand. Warmth and solidarity with those who may be different from ourselves is something we all can extend, but it takes a conscious effort.
Welcoming others, and sharing what we have with them means welcoming God who has come to visit. Our neighbors come to make the Kingdom of God a reality in our world, which seeks to gather us all at the same table, to share the life God has given us. Only hospitality, the sincere and open welcome, the extended hand, will unite a divided and broken world that at times only seems capable of distrust and violence. Let’s do our part!

La hospitalidad es esencial para que las personas se sientan bienvenidas e incluidas en cualquier grupo. Con frecuencia escucho que nuestra comunidad de St. Thomas es hospitalaria y acogedora, y siempre estoy muy orgullosa de que esta característica sea sobresaliente. Gracias por ayudar a que tanto los invitados como los miembros se sientan "EN CASA".
a hospitalidad es un tema de nuestras lecturas de hoy. En la fe judía, era considerado un deber sagrado. Los visitantes recibieron honor y respeto. ¿Cómo se ejemplifica? Escuchando a los invitados, cuidando sus necesidades y, sobre todo, dando la bienvenida a la persona.
Creo que la hospitalidad es natural para nosotros, pero como la gente se ha vuelto cada vez más desconfiada de los demás, a veces ha desaparecido. Y eso es triste. El hecho es que todos somos hermanos y hermanas. Todos pertenecemos a la familia de Dios, por lo que debemos poner énfasis en esta virtud.
Podemos ser más acogedores, siendo receptivos y escuchando a los demás; también sirviendo las necesidades de otros y dando una mano de ayuda. La calidez y la solidaridad con quienes pueden ser diferentes de nosotros mismos es algo que todos podemos extender, pero requiere un esfuerzo consciente.
con ellos significa dar la bienvenida a Dios que ha venido a visitarnos. Nuestros vecinos vienen a hacer realidad el Reino de Dios en nuestro mundo, que busca reunirnos a todos en la misma mesa, para compartir la vida que Dios nos ha dado. Solo la hospitalidad, la bienvenida sincera y abierta, la mano extendida, unirán un mundo dividido y roto que a veces solo parece capaz de desconfianza y violencia. ¡Hagamos nuestra parte!
