Have you thought recently about WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY? I am guessing that most of us, if we made a listing, would NOT find many things that are bought with money. If we depend only on material things to feel happy, we would often feel depressed, disappointed, and frustrated.
I hope that we have values that go far beyond the material things of this earth. We Christians have values that we need to share with future generations because they are what truly give happiness. Our family and friends, PEOPLE, should be high on our priority list to be happy. Sharing love and concern for one another makes a difference in our lives. If we give so much importance to things that we put them before persons--even worse, before God--we are wasting time and life. Things must be put at the service of God and community. The man in the Gospel parable today believed he was very smart and skillful by protecting his goods; but, in reality, he was a fool, because he did not realize that life usually passes by faster than any of us would want.
Today’s second reading reminds us to have our heart set on the things above, in what will not pass away. God will not pass, and people, even though they die, will also not pass because God has given us eternal life. Love is a reality that is always growing. Friendship, nature, family, and dignity have no material value; and yet, they are worth more than anything that can be accumulated. So let’s check it out: WHAT REALLY MAKES US HAPPY?

Has pensado recientemente sobre lo ¿QUE ES LO QUE TE HACE FELIZ? Supongo que la mayoría de nosotros, si hiciéramos una lista, NO encontraríamos muchas cosas que se compran con dinero. Si dependemos solo de cosas materiales para sentirnos felices, a menudo nos sentiremos deprimidos, decepcionados y frustrados.
Espero que tengamos valores que vayan mucho más allá de las cosas materiales de esta tierra. Los cristianos tenemos valores que necesitamos compartir con las generaciones futuras porque son lo que verdaderamente dan felicidad. Nuestra familia y amigos, PERSONAS, deben ocupar un lugar destacado en nuestra lista de prioridades para ser felices. Compartir el amor y la preocupación mutua hace una diferencia en nuestras vidas. Si damos tanta importancia a las cosas que las ponemos ante las personas, peor aún, ante Dios, estamos perdiendo el tiempo y la vida. Las cosas deben ponerse al servicio de Dios y de la comunidad. El hombre en la parábola del Evangelio de hoy creía que era muy inteligente y hábil al proteger sus bienes; pero, en realidad, era un tonto, porque no se daba cuenta de que la vida por lo general pasa más rápido de lo que cualquiera de nosotros desearía.
La segunda lectura de hoy nos recuerda que debemos poner nuestro corazón en las cosas de arriba, en lo que no pasará. Dios no pasará, y las personas, aunque mueran, tampoco pasarán porque Dios nos ha dado vida eterna. El amor es una realidad que siempre está creciendo. La amistad, la naturaleza, la familia y la dignidad no tienen valor material; y, sin embargo, valen más que cualquier cosa que se pueda acumular. Así que echemos un vistazo: ¿QUÉ NOS HACE REALMENTE FELICES?
