Have you ever noticed that Christians have a particular vision of the concept of justice? This is thanks to our Savior, Jesus. Jesus opened the gate of heaven for us through his death on the cross. Justice comes from Him alone. That was the great light St. Paul received to share the truth. No one has the right to pride if we are all in the same situation in need of redemption. We are all sinners, and we need the grace of God - his free gift - in order to be justified.
Today’s gospel parable is addressed to those who are convinced of their own righteousness. Selfsufficiency is a kind of blindness and deafness that closes people up in their own securities and hinders them from knowing God. It is like an idolatry that does not recognize that they have rejected God. The self-righteous feel above others, but the truth is that their lives are in the most absolute solitude and isolation. They feel so good, so important, and so perfect, that they do not need relationships with others, let alone with God. Those people don’t really live.
“Humility is truth,” said St. Teresa of Jesus. Truth teaches us to see and love ourselves as God sees and loves us, i.e. just as we are. It teaches us not to compare ourselves to others, to avoid jealousy, to recognize our limitations, and also to know our qualities and capacities. It encourages us to be happy that others have qualities we lack so that, together, we can build a great community. We each have received God’s mercy, and we can extend that mercy to everyone. The justice of God is mercy. Let’s share it generously with one another.

¿Alguna vez has notado que los cristianos tienen una visión particular del concepto de justicia? Esto es gracias a nuestro Salvador, Jesús. Jesús nos abrió la puerta del cielo a través de su muerte en la cruz. La justicia viene solo de Él. Esa fue la gran luz que recibió San Pablo para compartir la verdad. Nadie tiene derecho al orgullo, si todos estamos en la misma situación y necesitamos redención. Todos somos pecadores y necesitamos la gracia de Dios, su don gratuito, para ser justificados.
La parábola del evangelio de hoy está dirigida a aquellos que están convencidos de su propia justicia. La autosuficiencia es un tipo de ceguera y sordera que cierra a las personas en sus propios valores y les impide conocer a Dios. Es como una idolatría que no reconoce que han rechazado a Dios. El fariseo se siente por encima de los demás, pero la verdad es que vive en la más absoluta soledad y aislamiento. Se siente tan bien, tan importante y tan perfecto que no necesita relaciones con otros, y mucho menos con Dios. Esa persona realmente no vive.
"La humildad es la verdad", dijo Santa Teresa de Jesús. La verdad nos enseña a vernos y amarnos a nosotros mismos como Dios nos ve y nos ama, es decir, tal como somos. Nos enseña a no compararnos con los demás, a evitar los celos, a reconocer nuestras limitaciones y también a conocer nuestras cualidades y capacidades. Nos alienta a estar felices de que otros tengan cualidades que nos faltan, para que, juntos, podamos construir una gran comunidad. Todos hemos recibido la misericordia de Dios, y podemos extender esa misericordia a todos. La justicia de Dios es misericordia. Compartámoslo generosamente unos con otros.
