Today is the last Sunday of Ordinary time in our liturgical calendar. Next Sunday, we celebrate the feast of Christ, King of the Universe, just before we begin Advent, and a new liturgical year. So it is a time to take stock of our lives, and examine ourselves to see how much closer we are now than a year ago to being a sincere MISSIONARY DISCIPLE of Jesus, sharing our faith in our lives one day at a time.
Paul reminds the first Christians, who thought the second coming of Jesus was very near, that they should not get lazy. He wrote: “If anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.” That is being very direct and realistic. He is saying in other words: “Do your part, and be concerned about the wellbeing of others, not just yourself.” Those to whom he was speaking might have thought it was no use being faithful if Jesus was coming soon. The end was near.
What we do need to recall is that the end of the story of our life is one of triumph and glory, and we can attain it in Jesus Christ. We can remember the great things that GOD has done for us, recalling God’s presence every moment in our lives, good and bad; and that by doing good works of hope, acts of compassion and care, we bring comfort and support to others. Let us pray that everything that has to do with seeking the good of others will bring joy of the presence of God’s love. Let us work tirelessly!

Hoy es el último domingo del tiempo ordinario en nuestro calendario litúrgico. El próximo domingo celebramos la fiesta de Cristo, Rey del Universo, justo antes de comenzar el Adviento, y un nuevo año litúrgico. Por lo tanto, es un momento para hacer un balance de nuestras vidas y examinarnos para ver cuánto más cerca estamos ahora que hace un año de ser un sincero DISCÍPULO MISIONERO de Jesús, compartiendo nuestra fe en nuestras vidas un día a la vez.
Pablo les recuerda a los primeros Cristianos, que pensaban que la segunda venida de Jesús estaba muy cerca, que no deberían volverse flojos. Él escribió: "Si alguien no estaba dispuesto a trabajar, tampoco debería comer". Eso es ser muy directo y realista. En otras palabras, está diciendo: “Haz tu parte y preocúpate por el bienestar de los demás, no solo por ti mismo”. Aquellos a quienes estaba hablando podrían haber pensado que sería inútil ser fiel si Jesús viniera pronto. El final estaba cerca.
Lo que necesitamos recordar es que el final de la historia de nuestra vida es de triunfo y gloria, y podemos lograrlo en Jesucristo. Podemos recordar las grandes cosas que DIOS ha hecho por nosotros, recordando la presencia de Dios en cada momento de nuestras vidas, bueno y malo; y que al hacer buenas obras de esperanza, actos de compasión y cuidado, brindamos consuelo y apoyo a los demás. Oremos para que todo lo que tiene que ver con la búsqueda del bien de los demás alegrará la presencia del amor de Dios. ¡Trabajemos incansablemente!
