Greetings from Sister Marlita / Saludos de Sister Marlita

Thank You to all who have been able to rejoin us here at St. Thomas the Apostle for the weekend or Friday Masses. We are especially grateful for your collaboration of wearing masks and social distancing, because we know we are doing so with EVERYONE ELSE in mind, and being especially caring for those who may be more vulnerable among us. We take this care so that those who need extra attention will continue to be able to do so in our loving community of St. Thomas the Apostle. That may necessitate some sacrifice, but we are big enough, I am confident, to make those sacrifices for the sake of the good of others. I know you won’t let one another down.

The 13th Sunday of Ordinary time readings are good to remind us of our obligation to one another. St Paul’s letter to the Romans tells us that through our baptism, we are buried with Christ into death, so that we too might live in newness of life, like Christ, who rose again. We are called to be persons of LIFE and LOVE. Let our choices reflect that invitation in how we live. As we reconnect again in other activities and committees of the parish, we welcome ALL to be a contributing part of our community.

In Matthew’s Gospel today we are also called with these words: “...whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for [Jesus’] sake will find it.” Can we let go a bit more of what we think “has to be” in order to be persons who give a bit more of ourselves for others? It is a challenge that we are up to accepting. But we must make the choice. Let’s do it.

Gracias a todos los que han podido reunirse con nosotros aquí en St. Thomas the Apostle para el fin de semana o las misas de los viernes. Estamos especialmente agradecidos por su colaboración en el uso de máscaras y el distanciamiento social, porque sabemos que lo estamos haciendo con TODOS MÁS en mente, y estamos especialmente preocupados por aquellos que pueden ser más vulnerables entre nosotros. Tomamos este cuidado para que aquellos que necesitan atención adicional puedan continuar haciéndolo en nuestra comunidad amorosa de Santo Tomás Apóstol. Eso puede requerir algún sacrificio, pero somos lo suficientemente grandes, estoy seguro, para hacer esos sacrificios por el bien de los demás. Sé que no se decepcionarán unos a otros.

Las lecturas del 13er domingo del tiempo ordinario son buenas para recordarnos nuestra obligación el uno con el otro. La carta de San Pablo a los romanos nos dice que a través de nuestro bautismo, somos sepultados con Cristo en la muerte, para que nosotros también podamos vivir en una vida nueva, como Cristo, que resucitó. Estamos llamados a ser personas de VIDA y AMOR. Deje que nuestras elecciones reflejen esa invitación en cómo vivimos. Al reconectarnos nuevamente en otras actividades y comités de la parroquia, damos la bienvenida a TODOS a ser una parte contribuyente de nuestra comunidad.

Luego, en el Evangelio de Mateo, también se nos llama con estas palabras: "... quien encuentre su vida, la perderá, y quien pierda su vida por el bien de [Jesús] la encontrará". ¿Podemos dejar ir un poco más de lo que creemos que "tiene que ser" para ser personas que dan un poco más de nosotros mismos por los demás? Es un desafío que estamos dispuestos a aceptar. Pero debemos tomar la decisión. Vamos a hacerlo.
