Greetings from Sister Marlita / Saludos de Sister Marlita

One of the themes Jesus o!en repeats in the Gospel stories is “FEAR NOT”. I don’t think it is hard to figure why Jesus may include this theme. Our lives o!en bring us to moments when we lose confidence in ourselves or in the world around us. We do not have all the answers, and we depend on others to help us understand life’s challenges and difficulties.

This weekend we encounter one such passage about the storm on the sea and Jesus inviting Peter to walk to him on the water. “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” are the words we hear clearly. Peter’s faith was tested; could he believe Jesus would allow him to not sink?

This time of the pandemic seems to also be a good time to recall these words of Jesus. We can pray that the virus decreases and soon disappears. We can pray for any loved ones who have gotten sick, that they recover quickly. We can pray that everyone collaborates and helps not to be causes for the spread of the virus. And in all these prayers, we can hear: “TAKE COURAGE…do NOT be afraid.”

Please note that Peter initially was not afraid to step out of the boat, but his confidence waned, and he began to sink. Then Jesus saved him to eventually lead his disciples to evangelize. We need to place our confidence also in Jesus, but not blindly. We also need to do our part by thinking of others besides ourselves, and trying to help with social distancing and covering mouths. Let us pray that all see how they can help in this health crisis, and FEAR NOT. Jesus is with us.

Uno de los temas que Jesús repite a menudo en las historias del Evangelio es "NO TEMAS". No creo que sea di'cil entender por qué Jesús puede incluir este tema. Nuestras vidas a menudo nos llevan a momentos en los que perdemos la confianza en nosotros mismos o en el mundo que nos rodea. No tenemos todas las respuestas, y dependemos de otros para que nos ayuden a comprender los desa'os y dificultades de la vida.

Este fin de semana nos encontramos con uno de esos pasajes sobre la tormenta en el mar y Jesús invitando a Pedro a caminar hacia él en el agua. “Anímate, soy yo; No tengas miedo." son las palabras que escuchamos claramente. La fe de Pedro fue probada; ¿Podría creer que Jesús le permitiría no hundirse?

Este tiempo de la pandemia también parece ser un buen momento para recordar estas palabras de Jesús. Podemos rezar para que el virus disminuya y pronto desaparezca. Podemos orar por cualquier ser querido que se haya enfermado, para que se recupere rápidamente. Podemos rezar para que todos colaboren y ayuden a que no sean causas de la propagación del virus. Y en todas estas oraciones, podemos escuchar: "TOMA VALOR ... NO tengas miedo".

Tenga en cuenta que Peter inicialmente no tenía miedo de salir del bote, pero su confianza disminuyó y comenzó a hundirse. Entonces Jesús lo salvó para que eventualmente guiara a sus discípulos a evangelizar. Necesitamos poner nuestra confianza también en Jesús, pero no ciegamente. También necesitamos hacer nuestra parte pensando en otros además de nosotros mismos, y tratando de ayudar con el distanciamiento social y cubriendo la boca. Oremos para que todos vean cómo pueden ayudar en esta crisis de salud, y NO TEMEN. Jesús está con nosotros
