Today we meet a woman of great faith, a non-Jewish woman seeking a cure for her daughter. It is good to recall that Jesus performed his miracles mainly with the Jewish people, for the Savior was promised to them in the Old Testament. But Jesus had something else in mind by listening to her plea. His message of love was for ALL people, not just a chosen few.

When the apostles begin preaching the message of Jesus, there is a big decision to be made about Gentiles (non-Jews) and the Jews or Israelites. Do they have to be circumcised or become Jewish first before they are bap!zed to be Chris!ans? In the end, the answer was NO.

At first Jesus’s words to the Canaanite woman seem harsh. Someone might think he was a racist, looking down on her. But he is really testing her faith. Obviously she had heard of his miracles and cures in Galilee, so she wanted to share in them. And she persists with her request for the mercy of Jesus on her daughter who was tormented by a devil. Jesus rewards her faith and drive, and recognizes her deep faith in his power and mercy. The girl is cured.

Is our faith such that we might continue to ask God for the favors we seek, even when it seems he is not listening? Do we persist is seeking good even when faced by difficulties? Is our faith strong enough to believe in the middle of challenges? Let us pray our faith grows daily.

Hoy conocemos a una mujer de gran fe, una mujer no judía que busca una cura para su hija. Es bueno recordar que Jesús realizó sus milagros principalmente con el pueblo judío, porque se les prome!ó al Salvador en el An!guo Testamento. Pero Jesús tenía algo más en mente al escuchar su súplica. Su mensaje de amor fue para TODAS las personas, no solo para unos pocos elegidos.

Cuando los apóstoles comienzan a predicar el mensaje de Jesús, hay una gran decisión sobre los gen!les (no judíos) y los judíos o israelitas. ¿Tienen que ser circuncidados o conver!rse en judíos antes de ser bau!zados para ser cris!anos? Al final, la respuesta fue NO.

Al principio, las palabras de Jesús a la mujer cananea parecen duras. Alguien podría pensar que era racista y la despreciaba. Pero él realmente está probando su fe. Obviamente, ella había oído hablar de sus milagros y curas en Galilea, por lo que quería compar!rlos. Y ella persiste con su pedido de la misericordia de Jesús sobre su hija que fue atormentada por un demonio. Jesús recompensa su fe y su impulso, y reconoce su profunda fe en su poder y misericordia. La niña está curada.

¿Es nuestra fe tal que podríamos seguir pidiéndole a Dios los favores que buscamos, incluso cuando parece que no está escuchando? ¿Persis!mos en buscar el bien incluso cuando nos enfrentamos a dificultades? ¿Es nuestra fe lo suficientemente fuerte como para creer en medio de los desa$os? Oremos, para que nuestra fe crezca diariamente.
