In the second half of today’s Gospel we hear Jesus say: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny themselves, take up their cross and follow me.” That is quite a requirement for a disciple of Jesus.
Who of us likes to think about carrying crosses? I venture to think very few; maybe those who have grown in their spiritual life to an advanced degree? And then, maybe not even them. The fact that each of us have crosses to bear is a reality. Each cross varies according to the individual person. There is suffering and challenge in life for everyone; it is a part of being human, and not being perfect. So the question becomes: “WHAT CROSS DO WE TAKE UP TO FOLLOW JESUS?
Reflecting awhile on that question may take us to: “AM I WILLING TO BEAR WRONGS DONE TO ME WITHOUT RETALIATION?” It is so easy to react when we think we are treated unkindly, or with thoughtlessness. Jesus asks us to bear that cross, and treat others as we wish to be treated. And he asks us to FORGIVE OTHERS.
Finally, we hear Paul’s words also to “be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” When we listen to our hearts, we win the war of good against evil. We follow the law of love and do what is good and pleasing to God and others.
May your days be filled with those positive choices, and your crosses will feel less heavy.

En la segunda mitad del Evangelio de hoy escuchamos a Jesús decir: "Quien quiera venir después de mí debe negarse a sí mismo, tomar su cruz y seguirme". Ese es un requisito para ser un discípulo de Jesús.
¿A quién de nosotros le gusta pensar en llevar cruces? Me aventuro a pensar muy pocos; ¿Quizás aquellos que han crecido en su vida espiritual hasta un grado avanzado? Y luego, tal vez ni siquiera ellos. El hecho de que cada uno de nosotros tenga cruces que soportar es una realidad. Cada cruz varía según la persona individual. Hay sufrimiento y desa'os en la vida para todos; es parte de ser humano y no ser perfecto. Entonces la pregunta es: “¿QUÉ CRUZ TOMAMOS PARA SEGUIR A JESÚS?
Reflexionar un poco sobre esa pregunta puede llevarnos a: “¿ESTOY DISPUESTO A SOPORTAR ERRORES HECHOS CONMIGO SIN REPRESALIAS?". Es tan fácil reaccionar cuando pensamos que nos tratan con crueldad o sin pensar. Jesús nos pide que carguemos esa cruz y que tratemos a los demás como deseamos que nos traten. Y nos pide que perdonemos a los demás.
Finalmente, escuchamos las palabras de Paul también para "ser transformado por la renovación de su mente". Cuando escuchamos a nuestros corazones, ganamos la guerra del bien contra el mal. Seguimos la ley del amor y hacemos lo que es bueno y agradable a Dios y a los demás.
