A new Church year begins today. No par!es, no hats/ whistles, no fanfare. Advent marks the start of Liturgical Year B, and throughout the next year we will hear from the Gospel of Mark. Mark is the shortest of the 4 Gospels, and was the first wri#en between the years 64-67. Mark was writing for the Christian community in Rome. We are told today to “Be watchful, to be awake, and to be alert.” Mark wants us to watch and wait for the coming of Jesus. And that is what Advent is about.
Jesus’s coming is three-fold. First, Jesus came in the past, into history 2,000 years ago. We will celebrate this again in a few weeks at Christmas. Secondly, Jesus comes to us in the present. Jesus comes to us in the sacraments, in prayer, in His word, and in the poor. We are invited to recognize Jesus and respond to Him when we hear the call; we are to do what he asks. Thirdly, Jesus comes to us in the future. We do not know when that particular moment will arrive, or how, but it will come for all of us. We have to be ready all the !me for that coming. So when Jesus comes knocking on our door, we want to be ready to greet Him as a friend and not as a stranger.
So let us use Advent to ready ourselves. It is a !me for renew awareness of God in our lives now, so we are prepared to meet God one day. We pray that on that final day God will recognize us because we have spent !me in our lives gettng acquainted. Blessings upon each of you this Advent season. Use your Advent wreath to remind you daily that we are called to be light for the world, through our words and deeds. Let your light shine brightly.

Hoy comienza un nuevo año eclesiás!co. Sin fiestas, sin sombreros / silbatos, sin fanfarrias. El Adviento marca el inicio del Año Litúrgico B, y durante el próximo año escucharemos el Evangelio de Marcos. Marcos es el más corto de los 4 evangelios y fue el primero escrito entre los años 64-67. Marcos escribía para la comunidad cris!ana de Roma. Hoy se nos dice que "Estemos atentos, despiertos y alerta". Marcos quiere que velemos y esperemos la venida de Jesús. Y de eso se trata el Adviento.
La venida de Jesús es triple. Primero Jesús vino en el pasado, a la historia hace 2.000 años. Celebraremos esto nuevamente dentro de unas semanas en Navidad. En segundo lugar, Jesús viene a nosotros en el presente. Jesús viene a nosotros en los sacramentos, en la oración, en su palabra y en los pobres. Estamos invitados a reconocer a Jesús y responderle cuando escuchemos el llamado; debemos hacer lo que él pide. En tercer lugar, Jesús viene a nosotros en el futuro. No sabemos cuándo llegará ese momento en par!cular, ni cómo, pero llegará para todos. Tenemos que estar preparados todo el !empo para eso. Entonces, cuando Jesús toque a nuestra puerta, queremos estar listos para recibirlo como un amigo y no como un extraño.
Así que usemos el Adviento para prepararnos. Es un momento para renovar la conciencia de Dios en nuestras vidas ahora, así que estamos preparados para encontrarnos con Dios algún día. Oramos para que en ese día final Dios nos reconozca porque hemos pasado !empo en nuestras vidas conociéndonos. Bendiciones para cada uno de ustedes en esta temporada de Adviento. Use su corona de Adviento para recordarle diariamente que estamos llamados a ser luz para el mundo, a través de nuestras palabras y hechos. Deja que tu luz brille intensamente.
