We are celebrating TWO post-Christmas feasts with this bulletin (2 in one), and both of them are feasts worth considering in our own families.

Today’s, Dec. 27 is the Feast of the Holy Family. As we know, the family is where our Christian values are first taught AND CAUGHT. Our children learn about differences between right and wrong long before they go to school, and parents are the first teachers that they encounter. What an awesome responsibility for you who are parents. We pray that you have the wisdom to make good choices for your children, and then celebrate as family all the blessings that are yours. Take some !me this week to remember the family of Jesus, but also to be grateful for your very family and all its members.

Next weekend’s Mass on Jan. 3 will be The Epiphany of the Lord. This feast celebrates the coming of the Magi, or Three Kings, from the East, to honor and give glory to Jesus, the Messiah made manifest to them. Guided by a star, they gave Jesus gifts that recognized him as a King Himself. We are aware of the sad history of Herod, then King of the region around Bethlehem, who ordered all babies 2 years and younger to be killed because he was threatened by the thought of another King deposing him. We know that Jesus was not that sort of king.

Both of these feasts are a good reminder that we all should be grateful for the blessings of our own families, even though not perfect, and pray for the Good News of the birth of Jesus to be spread to all parts of the world. Giving witness to our gift of faith is something we can all improve on. Let us manifest or show others the love God has given us. Freely given, freely shared.

Hoy, 27 de diciembre es la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Como sabemos, la familia es donde nuestros valores cris!anos se enseñan y se capturan por primera vez. Nuestros niños aprenden las diferencias entre el bien y el mal mucho antes de ir a la escuela, y los padres son los primeros maestros que encuentran. Qué gran responsabilidad para ustedes que son padres. Oramos para que tenga la sabiduría de tomar buenas decisiones para sus hijos y luego celebre en familia todas las bendiciones que son suyas. Tómate un !empo esta semana para recordar a la familia de Jesús, pero también para estar agradecido por tu propia familia y todos sus miembros.

La misa del próximo fin de semana el 3 de enero será la Epifanía del Señor. Esta fiesta celebra la venida de los Magos, o Reyes Magos, de Oriente, para honrar y dar gloria a Jesús, el Mesías manifestado a ellos. Guiados por una estrella, le dieron a Jesús regalos que lo reconocieron como un Rey. Conocemos la triste historia de Herodes, entonces rey de la región alrededor de Belén, quien ordenó que mataran a todos los bebés de 2 años o menos porque estaba amenazado por la idea de que otro rey lo depusiera. Sabemos que Jesús no era ese !po de rey.

Ambas fiestas son un buen recordatorio de que todos debemos estar agradecidos por las bendiciones de nuestras propias familias, aunque no sean perfectas, y orar para que las Buenas Nuevas del nacimiento de Jesús se difundan a todas partes del mundo. Dar tes!monio de nuestro don de fe es algo que todos podemos mejorar. Manifiéstenos o mostremos a los demás el amor que Dios nos ha dado. Entregado libremente, compar!do libremente.
