Those kinds of things happen occasionally in our lives to call our attention to where God wants us to be in our faith life. Don’t forget that those fishermen had heard Jesus speak in the synagogue, and they were astonished with many others at his teachings. Some of them also probably saw a few of those first miracles that Jesus performed. So when Jesus issued his invitation to come after him, they already had the beginnings of faith in his specialness, and were curious as to who Jesus really was

. Jesus said: “I came that they may have life and have it to the full.” Sometimes, though, it doesn’t feel like full life. Forgiving others who have hurt us, loving our enemies, getting to weekend Mass when we are "red, following the commandments, giving charity to others when we have worked hard to earn it, etc. But Jesus said to the first disciples that this was the "me of fulfillment; the kingdom was at hand. And we also need to hear that message, too. Can we leave behind our selfish ways, and do what God directs our hearts to do? Let us pray so.
