We all know many of the stories from the Gospel about the miracles that Jesus performed during his three years of teaching and preaching to the people of his !me. So very many came to him to ask his mercy and forgiveness, and they often were cured of illnesses and disease by the hand of Jesus. Today’s Gospel tells us of the leper who sought a cure: “If you wish, you can make me clean,” he said to Jesus, kneeling in front of him.

This man was obviously a person of faith, who probably had heard, or maybe even had seen other cures by Jesus. He came seeking a favor, confident that Jesus might provide it. And he was cured.

How do we pray when we seek help from God? Are we filled with the same type of faith, that God will answer our prayers? And if our prayer is not answered immediately, do we lose faith? I believe that this leper can teach us that we can rely on the goodness and caring of our God, who wants us to depend upon Him in our need, and in our sufferings, whatever they may be. Even when our prayers are not answered immediately like in this story, we need to recall that “God’s ways are not always our ways.” We should not give up in asking God for his grace and help. We can keep knocking at the door and presenting our needs. God often intervenes through others, rather than directly. Let us pray we can always persevere in our faith in Jesus. Lent will begin soon, and it is a good season to try to strengthen our personal prayer life.

Todos conocemos muchas de las historias del Evangelio sobre los milagros. que Jesús realizó durante sus tres años de enseñanza y predicando a la gente de su !empo. Tantos vinieron a él para pedirle misericordia y perdón, y a menudo se curaban de enfermedades de la mano de Jesús. El evangelio de hoy nos habla del leproso que buscaba una cura: "Si lo desea, puede limpiarme", le dijo a Jesús, arrodillándose frente a él.

Este hombre era obviamente una persona de fe, que probablemente había escuchado, o tal vez incluso había visto otras curaciones de Jesús. Vino buscando un favor, confiado en que Jesús podría proporcionarlo. Y se curó.

¿Cómo oramos cuando buscamos la ayuda de Dios? Estamos llenos con el mismo !po de fe, que Dios contestará nuestras oraciones? Y si nuestra oración no es respondida de inmediato, ¿perdemos la fe? Creo que este leproso puede enseñarnos que podemos confiar en la bondad y cariño de nuestro Dios, que quiere que dependamos de Él en nuestra necesidad y en nuestros sufrimientos, sean los que sean. Incluso cuando nuestras oraciones no son respondidas inmediatamente como en esta historia, debemos recordar que "los caminos de Dios no siempre son nuestros caminos ". No debemos rendirnos en pedirle a Dios su gracia. y su ayuda. Podemos seguir llamando a la puerta y presentando nuestras necesidades. Dios a menudo interviene a través de otros, en lugar de directamente. Oremos para que siempre podamos perseverar en nuestra fe en Jesús. La Cuaresma comenzará pronto y es una buena temporada para probar para fortalecer nuestra vida de oración personal.
