In today’s readings and those for the next few weekends, Jesus is trying to get our attention and get us to think a little more about “the hereafter.” The liturgical year is coming to a close. Advent begins Nov.29. We know well that we will not live in this world forever; God has other plans for us and he wants us in on those plans.
Why is this important for us? We want to be prepared to meet our God one day. That is the whole purpose of our having been created, TO BE WITH GOD FOREVER. But we often forget that this is our reason for being a creature of God. Somehow we get too wrapped up in OUR plans, that we can easily forget about God’s plan. Our lives get complicated and busy with family responsibilities, work, and relationships with friends. We can often put off our entering into God’s plan, telling ourselves we have plenty of "me to prepare. But then our procrastinating may get us into trouble. How many times have you heard from friends and acquaintances that everyone is getting into heaven anyway, no matter how we have lived or what we have done? We can so easily be deceived.
Friends, this is NOT the message Jesus gives us. Jesus tells us over and over again in many ways: “You know neither the day nor the hour, “so BE WISE, and BE PREPARED. God invites us to the celebration of eternal life, and God does not want us to miss it. Let us begin to take stock and see how we are in answering that invitation. Let’s not miss the grand celebration.

En las lecturas de hoy y en las de los próximos fines de semana, Jesús está tratando de llamar nuestra atención y hacer que pensemos un poco más en "el más allá". El año litúrgico está llegando a su fin. El Adviento comienza el 29 de noviembre. Sabemos bien que no viviremos en este mundo para siempre; Dios "ene otros planes para nosotros y nos quiere en esos planes.
¿Por qué es importante para nosotros? Queremos estar preparados para conocer a nuestro Dios algún día. Ese es el propósito de que hayamos sido creados, para estar con DIOS PARA SIEMPRE. Pero a menudo olvidamos que esta es nuestra razón para ser una criatura de Dios. De alguna manera nos envolvimos demasiado en NUESTROS planes, para que podamos olvidarnos fácilmente del plan de Dios. Nuestras vidas se complican y se ocupan de las responsabilidades familiares, el trabajo y las relaciones con los amigos. A menudo podemos posponer nuestra entrada en el plan de Dios, diciéndonos que tenemos mucho "empo para prepararnos. Pero entonces nuestra dilación puede meternos en problemas. ¿Cuántas veces has oído de amigos y conocidos que todos están llegando al cielo de todos modos, no importa cómo hemos vivido o lo que hemos hecho? Podemos ser engañados tan fácilmente.
Amigos, este NO es el mensaje que Jesús nos da. Jesús nos dice una y otra vez de muchas maneras: "No conoces ni el día ni la hora", así que SÉ SABIO, y PREPÁRATE. Dios nos invita a la celebración de la vida eterna, y Dios no quiere que nos lo perdamos. Comencemos a hacer balance y veamos cómo estamos en responder a esa invitación. No nos perdamos la gran celebración.
