Here we are already at the 4th Sunday of Advent. Where did the weeks go so quickly? Maybe some of us put off the preparing of our hearts anew for the birth of Jesus, and so we may be caught short now that it is so near Christmas. Hopefully we have all made some effort to bringing love and joy into peoples’ hearts through our project like the Giving Tree or something similar. Or possibly we have adopted some special individual or family with whom to share the Christmas spirit concretely. Or we could be donating to our favorite charity at this time of the year to help reach out to those who have little or nothing.

Christmas time is a time to recall the goodness of our God. God has just one word that he will never change or withdraw. The Word of God--Jesus, made flesh, is the best news we could have, and the only one we can fully believe. Jesus never leaves a promise unfulfilled, and he never lies. The living Word that is Jesus born at Christmas can make all the words good. The Word of God is faithfulness, and it does not change from one day to the next; it is good news promising salvation, freedom from evil.

We celebrate the coming to the world of an incarnate God who is always LOVE. That is what Christmas is all about. And we are invited to bring that love to birth again in the lives of those we love and care about. Let’s stop at the crib scene in church for a moment this season, and pray that we are about LOVE and CONCERN for others in many varied ways.

Aquí ya estamos en el cuarto domingo de Adviento. ¿A dónde se fueron las semanas tan rápido? Tal vez algunos de nosotros pospongamos nuevamente la preparación de nuestros corazones para el nacimiento de Jesús, y entonces podemos quedarnos cortos ahora que está tan cerca la Navidad. Esperemos que todos hayamos hecho un esfuerzo para llevar el amor y la alegría a los corazones de las personas a través de nuestro proyecto, como el árbol de donaciones, o algo similar. O posiblemente hemos adoptado algún individuo o familia especial con quien compartir concretamente el espíritu navideño. O podríamos estar donando a nuestra organización benéfica favorita en esta época del año para ayudar a llegar a aquellos que tienen poco o nada.

El tiempo de Navidad es un tiempo para recordar la bondad de nuestro Dios. Dios tiene una sola palabra que nunca cambiará ni se retirará. La Palabra de Dios, Jesús, hecha carne, es la mejor noticia que podríamos tener, y la única en la que podemos creer plenamente. Jesús nunca deja una promesa incumplida y nunca miente. La Palabra viva que es Jesús nacido en Navidad puede hacer que todas las palabras sean buenas. La Palabra de Dios es fidelidad y no cambia de un día para otro; son buenas noticias que prometen salvación, libertad del mal.

Celebramos la venida al mundo de un Dios encarnado que siempre es AMOR. De eso se trata la Navidad. Y estamos invitados a volver a dar vida a ese amor en la vida de aquellos que amamos y nos preocupamos. Detengámonos en la escena de la cuna en la iglesia por un momento esta temporada, y oremos para que seamos acerca de AMOR y PREOCUPACIÓN por los demás de muchas maneras diferentes.
