Greetings from Sister Marlita /Saludos de Sister Marlita
PAX ET BONUM, PEACE AND ALL GOOD…These were the words that St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) used as a greeting to those he met, and also when he departed from their company. He wished PEACE to everyone and he sincerely wanted ALL GOOD to be a part of their daily lives as well.
Today, October 4, we celebrate the feast of St. Francis. He is the patron of all Franciscans, men and women who have followed his rule of life for over 1,780 years. Many religious communities have come and gone following in the footsteps of St. Francis. My community, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, have done so for over 150 years. This little Italian man chose poverty over the riches of his family, the Bernadones, and abandoned a life of frivolity and wealth, to serve the poor and rejected of Assisi and of the towns nearby in the Perugia Valley of Italy.
Francis was poor only that he might be more Christlike, unattached to the things of this world. He recognized creation as another manifestation of the beauty of God. Thus, in 1979 he was named patron of ecology. But his real renown is his faithfulness to the Catholic Church, and to all people in need of any kind.
We can all be” Franciscan in spirit” by being attentive to the people around us, and reach out to them in their need. That is expressed in a variety of ways, and each individual can decide how to serve others out of love. PEACE and ALL GOOD to each of you. Celebrate with me!

PAX ET BONUM, PAZ Y TODO EL BIEN… Estas fueron las palabras que san Francisco de Asís (1181-1226) u!lizó como saludo a los que conoció, y también cuando par!ó de su compañía. Él deseaba PAZ para todos y sinceramente quería que TODO EL BIEN fuera parte de su vida diaria también.
Hoy, 4 de octubre, celebramos la fiesta de San Francisco. Es el patrón de todos los franciscanos, hombres y mujeres que han seguido su regla de vida durante más de 1.780 años. Muchas comunidades religiosas han ido y venido siguiendo los pasos de San Francisco. Mi comunidad, las Hermanas Franciscanas de la Caridad Cris!ana, lo han hecho durante más de 150 años. Este pequeño italiano, que prefirió la pobreza a la riqueza de su familia, Los Bernadones, abandonaron una vida de frivolidad y riqueza, para servir a los pobres y rechazados de Asís y de las ciudades cercanas en el Valle de Perugia de Italia.
Francisco era pobre sólo para poder parecerse más a Cristo, desapegado de las cosas de este mundo. Reconoció la creación como otra manifestación de la belleza de Dios. Así, en 1979 fue nombrado patrón de la ecología. Pero su verdadero renombre es su fidelidad a la Iglesia Católica y a todas las personas necesitadas de cualquier !po.
Todos podemos ser "franciscanos en espíritu" si estamos atentos a las personas que nos rodean y acercándonos a ellos en sus necesidades. Eso se expresa de diversas formas, y cada individuo puede decidir cómo servir a los demás por amor. PAZ y TODO BIEN para cada uno de ustedes. ¡Celebra conmigo!
