The right to vote is a right that some take seriously, and others unfortunately, do not. That right is coming up once again this week on November 3rd (if you did not already do so by absentee ballot).
I read some comments recently from one of our US. Bishops that many folks are feeling “politically homeless” this year; that is, they feel poorly represented by both political parties. But that should not frustrate us to the point of failing to vote. We need to make the best decisions we can for the common good. I believe that is part of our responsibility as informed Catholics and as persons of good conscience.
This all seems to fit well as we hear this week’s Gospel reading: We should love our God, above all things, this is the first commandment. And the second is like it: we should love our neighbor as ourselves. The same Bishop said that “our vote must also help us love our neighbor by enac!ng policies that protect the weak, strengthen families, promote conditions that allow all of crea!on to flourish. Our vote needs to ensure that everyone can prac!ce their faith and follow their conscience without fear of reprisal.”
Please take !me on Tuesday, November 3rd to exercise your right to vote, and let us pray for the leadership of our country, that they allow God to guide them in making decisions for the good of ALL citizens. May the Holy Spirit guide your choice.

El derecho al voto es un derecho que algunos toman en serio, y otros, por desgracia, no lo hacen. Ese derecho viene una vez más esta semana en 3 de noviembre (si aún no lo hizo mediante boleta de voto ausente).
He leído algunos comentarios recientemente de uno de nuestros Estados Unidos. Obispos que muchas personas se sienten "polí!camente sin hogar" este año; es decir, se sienten mal representados por ambos par!dos polí!cos. Pero eso no debe frustrarnos hasta el punto de no votar. Tenemos que tomar las mejores decisiones que podamos para el bien común. Creo que eso es parte de nuestra responsabilidad como católicos informados y como personas de buena conciencia.
Todo esto parece encajar bien al escuchar la lectura evangélica de esta semana: Debemos amar a nuestro Dios, por encima de todas las cosas, este es el primer mandamiento. Y el segundo es así: debemos amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos. El mismo obispo dijo que "nuestro voto también debe ayudarnos a amar a nuestro prójimo mediante la promulgación de polí!cas que protejan a los débiles, fortalezcan a las familias, promuevan condiciones que permitan que toda la creación florezca. Nuestro voto debe asegurarse de que todos puedan prac!car su fe y seguir su conciencia sin temor a represalias".
Por favor, tómense su !empo el martes 3 de noviembre para ejercer su derecho al voto, y oremos por el liderazgo de nuestro país, para que permitan que Dios los guíe en la toma de decisiones por el bien de TODOS los ciudadanos. Que el Espíritu Santo guíe tu elección.
